Yesterday afternoon as we were on our way to Mosinee, WI, Joe and I saw a "Barn Sale" sign. Anyone who knows me knows that I can't resist the lure of the unexpected, especially if there is "junk" - the hunt for "treasure" is irresistible! As we talked to the owner at the "barn sale" we found out that American Pickers wanted to film a segment at his place, but he declined.
Treasure Number 1
Treasures, 2 - 55 or maybe 75. Buildings full of this stuff and more between all the buildings!
Old car, old bike, old car parts & ??
Old toys along the fence.
Old Red Crown gas pump and other service station items. How to get them to Hershey??
Another great old pump.
We finally found our way to Mosinee where we stayed with Evergreen B & B Club members Tom and Linda Mielke. Neighbors, family and friends showed up to see the old car. We enjoyed meeting all of them. Linda has a beautiful garden and Joe and Tom talked old cars.
The day started out with gray skies which soon changed to a light drizzle and then to moderate rain as the day progressed. The wind was calm and the temperature in the mid-fifties so we didn't freeze.
Hardwood forests turned to mixed hardwood and conifers - hemlock, spruce, maple, oak, birch and others - really beautiful.
This is what Wisconsin rain looked like today through the windshield - no wipers, just Rain-X on the windshield.
Joe and I were chilled and decided to stop at a gas station in Ogema, WI to get a little something to eat and to put on our "thermies". As luck would have it, owners Renee and Jim Leinfelder and Hermie Willtala at the Ogema Hills Gas and Go on County Rd G, were having a "one year anniversary" celebration. Renee and Jim were dishing up pork barbeque made by "master chef" Hermie. The food was delicious and we met so many nice people including Jim Gummerson. Thanks everyone for lunch and letting us warm up.
Everyone needs a big chicken - this one was 15 feet tall. It was in front of a small Wisconsin restaurant.
Kids and old cars just go together! These 2 were at the Phillips, WI Car Show at the local A&W Root Beer.
We stopped for the day in Phillips, WI. Looking through all of the brochures you get at the hotel front desk, I saw that they were having a car show in town. Joe had just put the car cover on but off it came and we went to the show. Due to the weather it had a smaller than normal turnout, but there were some really great cars there. There were muscle cars and fifties cars and a little Crosley that I wanted to bring home with me. We were the only Brass era car there and and the only ones crazy enough to drive to the show in the rain with no windows. People enjoyed hearing about our trip and learning about E-M-F automobiles. Joe won a huge trophy to proudly display at home. Dick Heitkemper, city councilman and retired sheriff and his wife, Joanne, kindly bought dinner for us at a wonderful restaurant in Phillips.
